The Outlaws on the Rock Legends Cruise

12-11-11

Last week we completed the ultimate test of our  2 SONY SLT-A77s.

We were the official PHOTOGRAPHERS on the Rock Legends Cruise (www.rocklegendscruise.com) and shot just over 9,000 excellent PHOTOS in 3 days exclusively with our SONY A77s. We shot fan shots, concerts, meet and greets, some VIDEOS, and scenery shots on Nassau and Coco Cay.

The PHOTOS we shot of the concerts were about 65% with no flash using only the stage lighting. We got excellent results with probably only 20 PHOTOS showing any noise at all!

I shot with my favorite MINOLTA 28-135 1:4-4.5 exclusively and my wife shot with her pet SONY 16-50 exclusively.

On a whim I decided to try the VIDEO out during one of the concerts… expecting to get great VIDEO but have the sound blown out because I was only 10-15 feet from the main PA system and I didn’t bring my external mic.  The sound quality was actually excellent, not blown out at all, no AF noise, and very little wind noise picked up even though we were experiencing  25 MPH wind constantly. The VIDEO quality itself was amazing and even being compressed down to youtube size it looks great full screen :D

The CAMERAS themselves performed very well! My wife never had to reboot her CAMERA and I only had to reboot mine 3 times while taking about  5500 of the PHOTOS.  We never experienced an overheating problem even though we shot an average of 100 shots an hour each.  We also never experienced any delays waiting for the buffer to catch up. Out of the 9,000 plus PHOTOS we took maybe 100 were unusable,  and most of those were from user error not the camera. I was constantly changing the EV to deal with the ever changing lighting.

Many Canon and Nikon shooters on the cruise checked out our SONY A77s and all were impressed.
